Carmien Tea & Mouton Foundation Projects
Carmién Tea actively supports community development on shareholder’s farms and is also committed to women- and childcare in the broader community through its partnership with Ubuntu Citrusdal. Carmién also assists community development projects in the poor township area of Citrusdal through an organisation called HUG (Help Us Grow). Flooding and accidental fires cause untold havoc and every support is needed to maintain and improve living circumstances and safety.
“One of the marvellous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals.” – Jean Vanier
In partnership with Mouton Foundation, the social upliftment arm of Mouton Holdings and Carmién Tea, and Bergendal Farming Operations all current projects will continue focusing on improving quality and increasing impact:

Counselling services provided by the Mouton Foundation in collaboration with ACT Citrusdal (Action for Community Transformation) has become an integral part of services rendered as workers have had to deal with loss and trauma, the need for marriage counselling, relationships, substance abuse and mental health issues.
Other new projects under consideration include a new pre-school centre, a baby centre, extension of the aftercare centre at De Meul by providing additional classrooms, a new clinic to be built, adding recreational areas and outdoor gyms to housing areas, additional medical appointments to help cope with the health and welfare of seasonal workers, the provision of wifi to all community areas, plus the continuation of cooking classes project to create increased awareness in preparing healthy food and curb the rise of diabetes and related diseases.
We are grateful for the continued support received from our donors, without which none of these services and dreams would come to life to improve the quality of life of our employees and community in general.
“Making a donation is the ultimate sign of solidarity. Actions speak louder than words.” – Ibrahim Hooper
