Easy Crochet Hat by Julme Conradie
Part 2
Today I want to share my easy crochet “pattern” with you on how to make your own adorable square hat.
What will I need?
- Measuring Tape
- Yarn or Wool of your choice (see post one here for suggestions)
- Crochet Hook ( I used a 5.5 mm hook see post one here for suggestions)
- Tapestry Needle to finish your hat
Stitches Explained:
Chain Stitch (Ch) : Yarn over pull up a loop
Double Crochet (DC) : Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through 2 loop (2 loops remain on hook). Yarn over, pull through 2 loops. One DC made.
Slip Stitch (SI ST): Insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops.
First things first – Let’s measure:
Step 1: Measure around the head just above the ears (this will be the length of your chain)
Step 2: Measure over the head from ear to ear (this measurement divide by 2 will be the hight of your hat)
Ready, Set and Crochet:
Start by making a slip knot.
Now, chain (loosely) until your chain measures a little less than your first measurement taken around the head.
Join the first chain with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch2. DC in the first stitch and every stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to your first DC of the round.
Round 2: Ch2, turn. DC in first DC (not the slip stitch) and every stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to first DC.
Repeat Round 2 until your hat measures the hight you worked out in Step 2 of ‘Let’s Measure’.
Finish by sewing close the top of your hat. Work away all your yarn ends with your tapestry needle.
In the next post I will show a few ideas on how to decorate your easy crochet hat.
Happy crocheting!
Julme
